Puppy Care
We do not sell puppies until they are 8 weeks old. We remove duclaws from puppies. Worming - we do at 5 weeks. For second worming consult your vet.
Puppy shots are done at 5-6 weeks of age, and will need to be repeated one month after first shot, two months after first shot, and a yearly booster. Or at the instruction of your vet. Our puppy shots include: Canine Coronovirus Vaccine and Canine Distemper - Adenovirus Type 2 - Parainfluenza - Parvovirus Vaccine.
Rabies shots (in the state of Iowa) are given at 4 months of age, a booster at 1 year and then every 3 years.
You may have your male neutered after 6 months of age. Females may be spayed after one year of age or after first heat.
Our kennel is inspected and licensed by the USDA. We have a Federal Breeder's License.
We get a lot of questions about potty training your puppy. We suggest that the puppy has it's own kennel. The puppy should be placed in the kennel at night and taken outside to potty first thing in the morning. Praise your puppy when he goes potty outside, really make a big deal out of it. Accidents will happen. Take the puppy outside or to kennel after an accident. Do NOT hit the puppy. During the day you will want to take puppy outside every 1-2 hours to try to potty. Being consistent is very important. It's best not to use pee pads unless you really want to. Remember, at this stage you really want to be consistent, it will pay off in the long run. Potty training is temporary if you make it a priority. Otherwise, an improperly trained puppy will turn into an improperly trained dog.
